With the different PoVs and present/past jumps the characters unfold. He grew up pushing himself to the limit and now it is time to go to war. An Epic killed his brother when he was ten, Prof found him and sent him to the Coop to be raised and trained. Jax is the central character to the story and gets the most PoV time. Lux follows a different Reckoner team in Texas as they try to fight a different band of Epics. To really get this book you need to have at least read Steelheart, if not the entire first trilogy. Steelheart was the first Brandon Sanderson book I read, so it holds a special place in my heart.
